This year’s cross country event was held on a beautiful sunny October day in the Phoenix Park. KCS brought twenty one athletes to the race meet, our biggest number in a number of years. There was some steely veterans that knew the course well and we had some fresh faces that were new to the challenges of the Phoenix Park.
We had a perfect start to the day with a 1st place finish in the girls 1st year race. Tori Fitzgerald lead from post to post with a great display. KCS were rewarded with bronze medals for the team event in this race also with Andrea and Tori placing very high.
In the second race of the day Leon came second after a great finish, narrowly edging out the third place competitor by a split second. We were very unlucky to just finish outside the team medal with some great displays by John Gibbons, Thomas Kiernan and Nathan Cleary.
KCS struck gold again in the third boys race. This time as the third years boys overall team winners. This was a very competitive race and we had great displays all round but especially from Jordan Bracken and Eoin Molloy. The overall team award would not have been won without superb final straight finishes by Jamie Yeates, Leon Johnson, Kyle Dempsy and Gavin Byrne.
Then it was to our two most senior member of the KCS cross country team, Amy Farrell and Jack Fitzgerald. Both these students had took part in five cross country meets each over their time in KCS which was a great achievement. Amy was unlucky to finish just outside the medal places and Jack had a typical thoroughly entertaining Jack Fitzgerald style display.
Both Ms O Neill and Mr Kevlihan were delighted with all the students displays and it was our most successful display to date with a number of medals and trophies returning to Tallaght.
